Here’s a few statistics from the past year at the Bowman Regional Public Library:

The Library had 25,350 visitors inside the Library.
You checked out 23,770 books, DVDs, ebooks and more in 2011.
The computers had over 9,100 log-ins.
Volunteers donated over 350 hours of service to the Library
The Library borrowed 365 books and DVDs from other libraries. We loaned 101 books and DVDs to other libraries.
The Children’s programs like the uber-popular Story Time had 1,650 plus visitors.
The Librarians answered 5,410 reference questions

Pennies for more thoughts? The Bowman Regional Public Library wants your pennies and spare change. Help us raise funds to support the Summer Library programs for children. We will turn your change into free community activities and reading challenges for kids during the Summer months.

More American Civil War

The second book of our book discussion series about the American Civil War is available at the library. James McPherson’s Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam, is available in print and audio versions. This is a “skinny” book! Lots of time to pick up a copy at the library and read it before the discussion.

Discussion will be Tuesday, February 21st in the Frontier Room of the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum (use the alley entrance). Our discussion will be facilitated by Tim Rodenberger.

Civil War book discussion

The Library and the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum are partnering to offer, through the North Dakota Humanities Council, a civil war book discussion series.

With a grant from the American Library Association (ALA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War, is a scholar-led reading and discussion program.

The books chosen include works of historical fiction and non-fiction. They include:

March, by Geraldine Brooks;
Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam, by James McPherson; and
America’s War: Talking About the Civil War and Emancipation on their 150th Anniversaries, a new anthology edited by Edward L. Ayers.

Discussions will be led by Civil War scholar, Tim Rodenberger.

Copies of the books are available at the Bowman Regional Public Library.

The first discussion will be January 24th, 7PM at the Frontier Room of the Pioneer Trails Regional Museum. The dates of the following discussions are February 21st at 7PM and March 20th at 7PM, also at the museum.
